Here’s that second reason I was referring to earlier. I truly believe that pacifism doesn’t work to stop evil. Now, that doesn’t mean that I support violence in every situation where there’s a perceived evil. For instance, violence was not going to remove the British Empire from India. Violence was not going to force equal rights for blacks. However, against people like Saddam Hussein or, in this case, the criminal elements of Pharos City, pacifism will give a person nothing but a bullet through the heart or, as with Carter here, extortion, blackmail, and fear. Pacifism only gives evil a free ride to continue engaging in its practice without anyone to oppose it. It’s really the basis for all superhero comics if you think about it – that violence can be implored to solve problems. Might is not right, but as King Arthur said in The Once and Future King, “Why can’t you harness Might so that that it works for right? I know it sounds nonsense, but, I mean, you can’t just say there is no such thing. The Might is there, in the bad half of people, and you can’t neglect it. You can’t cut it out, but you might be able to direct it, if you see what I mean, so that it was useful instead of bad,”
Might for Right, baby.
